    Sambal

Empowering Vulnerable Families for a Resilient Future

    Partner : Terre des Hommes
Coverage : 10 Underserved Villages, Barwani District, Madhya Pradesh
Implementing Organization : Pahal Jan Sahyog Vikas Sansthan

“SAMBAL” means support — and that’s exactly what this initiative delivers.

Designed for tribal communities in Barwani’s most underserved pockets, SAMBAL builds strong bridges between vulnerable families and government delivery systems. The goal is simple yet powerful: shift development from one-time assistance to sustained resilience.

    Strategic Focus Areas

    Nutrition & Maternal Health

Acting as a connector between families and the Women & Child Development (WCD) Department:

    • Vaccination tracking and awareness
    • Nutritional counseling
    • ANC/PNC support and maternal health check-ups

Ensuring every child begins life on a healthy foundation.

    Education Continuity

No child should fall through the cracks.

    • Identification of school dropouts
    • Specialized Bridge Learning Classes
    • Academic and psychological preparation for re-entry into formal schools

    Livelihood & Social Security

Poverty is often about lack of access, not lack of effort.

    • Facilitation of enrollment in welfare schemes
    • Linkages to employment programs like MGNREGA
    • Strengthening access to state-supported livelihood benefits

    Key Program Outcomes

    • Health: 100% vaccination tracking and improved ANC/PNC attendance in 10 villages
    • Education: Re-enrollment of dropout children into age-appropriate grades
    • Livelihood: Increased family income through MGNREGA & welfare scheme linkages

    Lessons Learned: The Holistic Impact

    The Nexus Effect

Education, nutrition, and livelihood are interconnected. A malnourished child struggles academically; a financially unstable family cannot prioritize schooling. Addressing all pillars together creates lasting change.

    Bridge Classes Build Confidence

Direct re-enrollment often results in repeat dropouts. Bridge Learning Classes serve as both an academic catch-up and a psychological cushion, restoring confidence before mainstreaming.

    Scheme Literacy is Power

Most families qualify for government benefits but lack awareness or procedural clarity. By promoting “Scheme Literacy,” communities gain the ability to independently access entitlements — reducing long-term dependency and strengthening self-reliance.

    The SAMBAL Promise

SAMBAL is not charity. It is capacity-building.

By aligning community needs with public systems, the project ensures that tribal families in Barwani move from vulnerability to stability — and from stability to self-sustained growth.
